Day 74: Family Reunion

June 23, 2017
Incline Beach, NV

Finally out of South Lake Tahoe today. Well, sorta. We’re still on Lake Tahoe, just on the Northern part of it in Incline Beach with Dr. McDirty’s cousin Grant. Glowworm and I ate breakfast and got some Starbucks before getting and Uber to Incline Beach. Then after nearly two weeks I was reunited with Dr. McDirty and Cougar. It was great to see them again. The last time I saw them was when I was being flow away in the helicopter.

It’s been real, Mellow Mountain Hostel.

We all went to the beach with Grant after settling in and then grabbed some groceries for the next couple days. For dinner we made eggplant pizzas. So basically a piece of baked eggplant with chopped tomatoes, onions, garlic, basil, cheese, and spices on top. It was really good. After dinner we chilled out and watched a movie. I love having the family together again.

Eggplant pizza thingies.

Yesterday I wanted to mention how much I now desire to get back on the trail, but simply was too tired after writing about our Scrabble escapades. Glowworm and I had watched a movie called Tracks about a woman who walks across Australia with three camels and a dog (an excellent film if you’re keen for a movie). I had seen it a few years ago, but Glowworm had not so we watched it after dinner and it really gave me a sense of longing to get back to living the simple lifestyle of waking up, walking, eating, and sleeping. There’s no distractions, no bullshit, no complications, just one foot in front of the other.

More sunsets.

It was after the movie that we walked to the beach to watch the sunset behind the lake with beautiful oranges and purples speckled on the water with the silhouette of the mountains in the background. All I could think about was getting back out there. And I can’t wait to be there with the whole trail family again.

Since I realize that I don’t always write about everything that happened or write coherently you should definitely read Glowworm’s blog since it really mirrors my own and often covers what I don’t mention. We’ve hiked almost everyday together so it’s a great compliment piece to this if you’re interested. Check it out here.
