Day 120: Stomach Flu Part 3
August 8, 2017
Mile 1740.20 Hyatt Lake Campground
Yeah, so I’m not any better. Around 12:30 last night I had to go to the campground toilet to hurl my guts. I guess spicy ramen wasn’t the best choice, but I don’t really have a ton of choices when it comes to foods that would be easy on my system.
The hope was to hike out at some point this morning, but if I can’t keep any nutrients in me, there’s no point in trying to hike when I can just stay here with a toilet nearby. So we took an on trail zero. We walked down to the restaurant and store to try to find some meds for me and I was able to get some Pepto-Bismol, although it didn’t make that much of a difference. When I sit or lay down I feel mostly fine, but if I walk around much that’s when I start feeling it again.
The bulk of the day was just spent playing cards and napping. We were able to take advantage of the nearby showers once again later in the afternoon, but I still was never really able to regain my appetite and eat a full meal. It’s hard to know exactly how I got this. I only started feeling it after I left Ashland. If it was water borne, then you would think I would have felt the effects of it while I was in town, not after since I didn’t drink any trail water while in town. The hummus is a possibility, but I can’t imagine that it would spoil only 24 hours after being unrefrigerated. That really leaves catching a bug while at Callahan’s or in town as the only possibility. In fact, as I lie here Glowworm is now reporting that she’s feeling sick to her stomach too.
So I don’t know. I’m not sure what to do. I’m not sure where to go. And I have no idea what’s going to happen tomorrow. All I really want right now is to be at home, curled up with my dogs on the couch while mindlessly watching some show on the History or Science channel. I want to finish this trail, but right now I have no interest in hiking or camping.
